Vesteraas Wedding on Ærø island: Janet and Florian
UPDATE: This amazing wild property has changed hands and we no longer offer weddings here. But you can explore our other unique wedding venues.
I first met Janet when she came to her friend’s elopement which we organized here on Ærø a couple of years ago.
I remember that Janet especially fell in love with the natural scenary at Voderup, so when she called a year later to say that she would like to get married to her Florian on Ærø - as close to Voderup Klint as possible - my heart skipped a beat.
Since I was a child, Voderup Klint has always been a favourite spot of mine on the island. The moraine cliffs consist of several kilometers of long terraces that link down to the sea like giant steps, so naturally the ceremony had to take place out on one of the terraces, a short “no heels walk” from the farm, Vesteraas, where the reception was taking place.
I tried out many wedding arches in my mind, but decided that it was no good competing with nature, and kept it simple, allowing the natural backdrop to take center stage. Chairs where a challenge as the guest number grew to 75, so hay bales were “tractored” in, and luckily stormy skies were avoided at all the outdoor critical moments!
Janet had made her own beautiful dress with lovely lace details, and knowing she is an enthusiastic hobby gardener, I added a few edibles to her bridal bouquet.
Collaborating with Maja and Nils at Vesteraas was an absolute pleasure! Their professionalism, combined with the casual feel at Vesteraas, was a pleasure to work with, and I hope, not for the last time!
